Hi! My name is Shaun Penrod.
I’m here because I am passionate about Magic: The Gathering and helping players like you overcome the seemingly daunting task of understanding and mastering our favorite game.
There is so much information out there, and I am dedicated to finding only the best and sharing it with you in an easy-to-apply manner.
I know what it’s like to be new to Drafting and not know which cards are good or which ones you should pick.
I know what it’s like to have no idea what the cards are worth and be paranoid of passing a money card or picking a dud instead of a bomb.
I’ve come home not feeling confident about what I picked and not winning any extra packs after the tournament. At these times I’ve felt like my time and money were wasted, and as a family man that really stings.
That is why I am here – to help you improve your skill so you can find enjoyment and fulfillment when you play Magic: The Gathering.
I want to help you understand the Magic better, become confident in your card evaluating skills and win your events so you can bring home a very satisfying spoil – both emotional and physical product.
By increasing your knowledge, building the best deck and winning, you will feel like your time and money are well spent, find recognition at your local game store and experience the rush of ripping into the large stack of booster packs you won.
It wasn’t long ago that I was sitting at a table during a booster draft and picked a card from a pack and passed the rest to my left. When the guy next to me picked up the pack he snickered – as in actually made a vocal sound of derision – when he saw what I passed him.
I immediately thought “What did I pass?!? Was it something I should have picked? What did I miss?” I felt dumb and deflated.
After that night, I started actively trying to improve my drafting skills by consuming content in the form of articles, videos and podcasts.
I learned how to evaluate cards and quickly found my confidence in being able to make good picks increase as I deepened my understanding of the sets and the format.
As a result, I have seen my win ratios improve and have found more fulfillment when I play Magic.
It hasn’t been easy. I still run into problems like not recognizing combo pieces or building decks with no synergy and mixed strategies. But through study and practice, I am overcoming these weaknesses and winning more.
I want to help you do the same – that is, see a marked improvement in the quality of your decks and increase the number of times you win.
